About Big Reuse – Bushwick

Big Reuse is the environmental nonprofit behind the huge salvage warehouse in Gowanus, and its Bushwick shop on Troutman Street is the newer, smaller sibling. It opened in a 5,000-square-foot former box-and-tool factory, fitted out with shelving the team built from reclaimed scaffolding lumber, and it was set up specifically as a thrift store for clothing and home goods rather than a second building-materials yard.

That shapes what is on the floor: clothing and accessories, books, dishes and glassware, kitchenware, homewares, and smaller appliances. Shoppers single out the book selection in particular, and prices are low across the board, in keeping with the nonprofit's mission of keeping usable goods out of landfill. Furniture and building materials are not part of the Bushwick mix — for those, go to the Gowanus warehouse at 1 12th St.

The shop is open 11am to 7pm every day and accepts donations of clothing, accessories, home goods, and small appliances during those hours. Other People's Clothes is about a block away at 333 Troutman St, which makes this stretch of Troutman an easy two-stop visit from the Jefferson Street L.
