Brooklyn Creative Reuse is secondhand shopping aimed at a different problem: not what to wear, but what to make with. The nonprofit spent years running pop-ups and donation drives before opening a permanent brick-and-mortar space inside Industry City in April 2026, and it now operates as the city's most practical source for cheap, donated creative materials.
The stock is whatever Brooklyn's artists, crafters, teachers, and downsizing hobbyists bring in, which means it changes constantly and unpredictably. Fabric and yarn are the deepest categories — reviewers consistently single out the fabric selection — alongside paint, brushes, drawing and drafting materials, paper, sewing machines and notions, canvases, frames, beads, and a steady flow of office and school supplies. Prices are a fraction of retail, and for anyone running a studio practice, teaching a class, or working through a costume or craft project on a budget, the savings are substantial.
The mission is the point: the organisation exists to keep usable art materials out of landfill, and the shop funds workshops that have covered hand quilting, zine making, still-life drawing, and collage. Donations of art-adjacent materials are accepted during open hours, so a visit can go both directions.
The shop is open Wednesday through Sunday, opening at 2pm midweek and earlier at weekends — check the site before travelling, as a young organisation's hours can shift. It sits in Industry City's C-block on 36th Street, reachable from the D/N/R at 36th Street, and Industry City's food halls make an easy pairing. Note that it is upstairs; reviewers mention elevator access is available.
