M.A.A.P.I.S runs two thrift stores on Sunset Park's 5th Avenue, and this is the southern one, at 56th Street. It works the same way as the original at 44th Street: a donation-driven floor of everyday clothing, children's wear, shoes, and household goods, priced for the neighborhood rather than for vintage shoppers. Stock turns over steadily, and regulars say the way to find the good pieces is to come often rather than to come once and dig for hours.
The practical difference is the hours. This branch stays open until 8pm Monday through Friday — three hours later than the 44th Street store on most weekdays — which makes it the after-work option on the avenue. Saturday runs 10am to 6pm and Sunday 10:30am to 5pm. The 59th Street N/R station on 4th Avenue is a short walk away, and the two M.A.A.P.I.S shops are an easy twelve-block walk apart if you want to do both.
