Front General Store has been the anchor of DUMBO's permanent vintage scene for years, and it is the shop that gives the neighborhood credibility with people who take vintage seriously. The storefront on Front Street is small, dense, and immediately legible as the work of someone with a specific point of view: military surplus and workwear hung beside Japanese-influenced new basics, vintage boots lined along the floor, glass cases of jewelry, watches, and small goods, and a back wall of denim.

The vintage edit is heaviest on menswear — field jackets, fatigues, chore coats, flannel, overshirts, and denim across cuts and eras — but the shop is not exclusively menswear, and the accessories and jewelry cases are genuinely unisex. What separates Front General from a dig shop is that nothing here is accidental. Every piece has been chosen, cleaned, and priced against what it actually is, which is why regular customers treat it as a place to find one right thing rather than a haul.

That curation is reflected in the pricing, and it is worth being direct about it: Front General is expensive relative to the rest of Brooklyn secondhand. Expect $60–$200 for outerwear, $40–$120 for denim and shirting, and higher for rare pieces. Shoppers hunting bargains will do better in Bushwick or Sunset Park. Shoppers hunting a specific, well-conditioned vintage jacket that they will keep for a decade are in exactly the right place.

The store also carries a well-chosen selection of new goods — socks, hats, gloves, grooming products, candles, home items — which makes it a reliable gift stop as well as a vintage destination. It sits a couple of minutes' walk from the York Street F stop, close enough to 2nd STREET and the Brooklyn Flea site that all three fit comfortably into a single DUMBO afternoon.
