m.a.e. is where Park Slope's designer wardrobes go when their owners are done with them. Operating on 7th Avenue in South Slope since 2009, it is a luxury and vintage consignment shop rather than a thrift store, and the distinction is the whole proposition: every piece is authenticated, condition-graded, and accepted only in new or close to perfect condition.
The label list is what draws people from outside the neighbourhood — Chanel, Gucci, Miu Miu, Valentino, Chloé, and comparable houses appear regularly, alongside strong contemporary designers and genuinely good vintage. Handbags and accessories are a particular strength, as is outerwear. The staff are stylists by background, and the shop leans on that: reviewers consistently describe being talked through fit, provenance, and whether a piece actually suits them rather than simply being sold to.
Prices are consignment prices, not thrift prices — this is the most expensive secondhand in Park Slope, and deliberately so. What it offers against retail is the ability to buy a $2,000 bag for a fraction of that, in condition close to unworn. For shoppers building a wardrobe around a few serious pieces, it is the most efficient stop in the neighbourhood. For anyone hunting a $10 sweater, Housing Works and Life Boutique Thrift are a few blocks north.
Hours are Tuesday through Saturday noon to 7pm and Sunday noon to 6pm, closed Mondays. The F and G at 7th Avenue and the R at Prospect Avenue both serve the block. Consignment intake is by appointment — worth knowing if you are bringing pieces to sell as well as buy.
